Purposeful Travel

Members of Safi School Project travel periodically to Tanzania to work at Ngateu School, other projects and to experience the culture of Tanzania. Trips include safaris and your stay can be extended to If you wish to go to Zanzibar, climb Kilimanjaro, visit a remote Hadatze tribe, work longer at the school, sit by the pool - you can add the time between groups. (Or you could add on at the end.)

Trips in 2012

The plans are made - although flexible- for our trip to Tanzania in 2012. The trip will split time between the Ngateu Secondary School Project School and Safaris to view to the migration, with options for "add-ons". We do this because we have found that it is very important to have moments to 'decompress' in order to stay balanced. Otherwise it can be overwhelming to suddenly place yourself as an active participant (not a viewing tourist) into a dynamically different culture. It is also great fun to see who can get the closest picture of an elephant's eye. This is a trip of a lifetime. It is unique in that it is purposeful travel. Ask anyone who has gone.

JUNE 28 - JULY19

We will be working at Ngateu school, for this trip the students will not be in school until the last 3 days of our stay. The students who will come to help will all be volunteers, the Headmaster expects quite a few to join. As before, we will be helping the students with their english and math, learning library and dictionary skills, as well as playing soccer, softball, jumprope, and sharing in their joys.

We will be traveling to Ngorogoro Crater, Serengeti National Park, and Oldupai Gorge. This will be a three night, four day excursion. We will explore Tarangire Game Park for three days and two nights.

We will also visit other projects, friends, shop in Arusha, and while on safari, visit Monduli and Maasae Girls' School

We will be staying at the Freedom Lodge, 1/4 mile from the school.

Downpayment of $100 is due by Jan 10.

Cost is approximately $2660, which includes all food, lodging and transportation in Tanzania. However, there will be a few lunches and snacks that you will pay for, as well as soda, beer, wine and personal shopping.

Airfare is yet to be determined - anticipate between $1800 and $2500.
