Sponsorships
The goal of the Safi School Project is to make a measurable difference in the education of secondary and post-secondary school students. Safi's main focus is to assure that students can attend and acquire the certificates needed for sustainable employment. In Tanzania, most students must pay for secondary schools and certificate programs.
A $700 sponsorship supports a student for one year in academic programs. A $1,080 sponsorship supports one year of vocational training.
Safi works with students in an area where education is valued but the average annual income for a family of 6-8 is $200-$300 US. Sponsors are needed to narrow the gap between what families can pay and what is needed.
In Tanzania one quarter of one percent of the students who begin school ever make it to the university level. (To help you visualize: one tenth of one percent of U.S. kids who play school football make it to the pros.)

Post-Secondary Support
Safi School Project’s mission of empowering and improving the lives of young people in Tanzania through education is working! Success of Safi sponsored students has created a major funding challenge. All 2013 - 2016 graduating Form IV students passed their national examinations and most of these students are eligible to continue their education in Form V and VI or other vocational training that leads directly to a job.
Post-Secondary options are based on test scores. Highest scores qualify for government school placement at a cost of approximately $500 per year excluding transportation. When those slots are filled, students can apply for private school with tuition costing approximately $900 to $1300 per year plus extra monies needed for mattresses, bedding, school supplies and transportation. Students can also opt to attend vocational training programs for careers in nursing, primary education, computer or other skilled fields.
Funding is needed for these successful students to continue their education. Safi School Project has established a Post-Secondary General Fund specifically for students who qualify to continue their education.
If you have any questions regarding this fund and its implementation, please write to Safi School Project, P. O. Box 8275, Lacey, WA 98505 or email [email protected] attn.: Mary, Nancy, or Carrie.

Why Safi Helps
Tanzania is a poor country financially but the people have a strong spirit and vision of hope for the future. The Tanzanian government supports education but can only cover some of the costs. The TZ Government does not fully fund secondary education and many secondary schools get no government support beyond the building supplies for the walls and roof of a school. The communities build the schools and it is through student school fees that they run the school and pay teachers. In poor communities, families can not afford to pay school fees so their children's education ends with the end of primary school. The cycle of poverty continues. Students know they must reach further in order to find a brighter future. Safi School Project members understand that there is really only one chance that these students have to get an education.
